Wuppertal, which is known the world over for its “Schwebebahn” (suspension railway), is a university city with around 350,000 inhabitants. The city is home to numerous enterprises from the modern industries of biotechnology, automotive systems, environmental technology and multimedia. High-ranking national and international large-scale enterprises such as Bayer Health Care, Vorwerk, varnish manufacturer DuPont, the world’s largest electronics supplier of the automobile industry Delphi, Germany’s largest health insurance company BarmerGEK, private insurer Barmenia or the renowned fibre manufacturers Teijin and Membrana are evidence of the location’s innovative and economic power.

At the same time, the city is one of the oldest and most famous industrial cities in Germany with old-established tool, textile, chemical and mechanical engineering enterprises, which play an important role both today and for the future and have a considerable effect on the location’s development.
